Acro Prop Sizes Explained

If you're taking down a wall or propping up part of a structure, getting the right size acro prop is critical. Hire one that’s too short and you’re risking collapse. Too tall — and you’ll struggle to get it in safely.

At ShellCo, we’ve used thousands of props on real sites. Here’s the breakdown:

How to Measure What You Need

Here’s how to measure:

  1. Use a tape from floor to ceiling where the prop will go

  2. Add +50mm if placing on timber or packing plates

  3. Choose a prop that has a closed range slightly shorter than your height — you want to jack it into place, not wedge it

Supporting a Wall? Use Strong Boys Too

If you're holding up brickwork during a knock-through, you'll likely need:

  • Acro props

  • Strong boy attachments

  • Sometimes a needle prop (for temporary beam support)
